Bio: Blazer is a 3 yr-old golden with a lot of miles under his belt despite his young age. Blazer was found wandering in Dacoma, OK in March of 2009 and appeared to have been on his own for most of his life. When he was bailed out of the shelter by a volunteer from Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue, it was clear he hadn't learned how to walk on a leash, ride in a car and other things we take for granted in our dogs. But his golden nature shone through, and he learned quickly and is eager to please.
Blazer was taken to the vet for a thorough exam and while he was under anesthesia for his neuter, the doctor discovered he was not able to extend his left rear leg. Further x-rays showed Blazer had an old injury to his hip that would require surgery. Although no one had noticed this sweet guy limping, the surgeon felt he was probably in pain and had just learned to cope with it. In May of 2009 Blazer had a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) to repair his hip. He came through the surgery with flying colors and spent the next couple of months getting his muscle tone back in shape.
Oklahoma is close to the dog “breeding” states of Arkansas and Missouri and Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue often has more dogs than adopters. Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue is in the fortunate position to have more adopters than dogs, so we offered to move some dogs west to help them get into homes more quickly. We started Project Gold Rush, and brought 6 dogs from OK to CA in early October, with Blazer being our first passenger.

Blazer is a sweet, affectionate guy with a survivor's spirit. After trekking around Oklahoma on his own for several years, having hip surgery and then traveling 1700 miles to Southern California, Blazer is ready to settle down. He'd love to find a family to give him lots of attention, training, and most importantly, love and stability. He prefers his people to other dogs, so he'd like to be the only pup in his forever home.
